Addition means putting numbers together to make a bigger number. We use the plus sign + and the answer is called the sum.
3 apples + 2 apples = 5 apples!
2 + 3 = 5
4 + 1 = 5
6 + 2 = 8
5 + 5 = 10 (that's a pair of hands!)
When numbers get bigger, we sometimes need to "carry" a ten to the next column. It's like packing extra socks into the next suitcase!

10 ÷ 2 = 5
12 ÷ 3 = 4
15 ÷ 5 = 3
8 ÷ 1 = 8 (sharing with just yourself!)
Sometimes things don't divide evenly. What's left over is the remainder.
17 ÷ 5 = 3 remainder 2
(because 5 × 3 = 15, and 17 − 15 = 2 left)
